Riverfront Infrastructure

Currently under construction, the new Christopher S. Bond Bridge will be an 8-lane, cable-stayed landmark structure that will replace the existing Paseo Bridge along the I-29/35 corridor between the northeast corner of the Central Business District to Armour Road. This $245 million project will feature the reconfiguration of various interchanges, including the Front Street Interchange, which connects to the Port Authority controlled Downtown Riverfront.

The new interchange of I-29/35 and Front Street will be designed and constructed as a Single Point Urban Interchange ("SPUI"). Front Street is being relocated south of its present location to allow for an alignment that will directly connect the Northeast Industrial District and Isle of Capri Casino site with the south side of the Riverfront Redevelopment (REDI) site.

In conjunction with the new Christopher S. Bond Bridge and Front Street Single Point Interchange, the City of Kansas City and the Missouri Department of Transportation have charged the Port Authority with designing and constructing an extension of Front Street that would connect the interstate to Grand Blvd., and thus, to the River Market/Central Business District. The Port Authority is working on servicing federal funds for this project.
