Isle of Capri Casino
The Port Authority serves as the landlord for the Isle of Capri Casino on land just east of I-29/35 on Front Street. The Isle and its predecessor have operated as Kansas City's Downtown casino destination since 1996. In 2006, the Isle announced a $75 million major redevelopment plan for their current site, including a hotel and a host of other amenities. These plans, however, were placed on hold following the 2007 decision by the Missouri Dept. of Transportation to replace the existing Paseo Bridge (I-29/35) over the Missouri River.
With the completion of the new Christopher S. Bond Bridge scheduled for 2011, the existing Front Street that bifurcates the casino site will be vacated. With a single contiguous site and greatly improved access, the Port Authority is confident that the Isle will again announce a major investment in their property. The Port Authority was worked diligently with the Isle in its role as a strong corporate citizen – providing funding for small minority owned businesses, infrastructure projects and a series of amenities and events along the Riverfront.
