Richard L Berkley Riverfront Park

Berkley Riverfront Park is a vibrant connection point between Kansas City and its most significant natural asset, the mighty Missouri River – providing a safe outlet for those choosing healthy, active lifestyles.

Richard L Berkley Riverfront Park was dedicated in October 1998 and opened to the public in March of 1999; the 17-acre park is located on the south bank of the Missouri River between the Paseo Bridge (1-35/29) and Heart of America Bridge (MO-9). The park was once a landfill for construction debris and the former site of a sand and gravel company, it now consists of hundreds of trees, a small natural amphitheater and a nearly one-mile long esplanade with period lighting. The park has amenities such as picnic tables, bike racks, a water fountain, and recycling containers. Berkley Riverfront Park hosts city events such as KCRiverFest, the city's annual Fourth of July Celebration. Other activities in the park include River Otter Day, Corporate Walks and Music Festivals, as well as watch parties for the Tour of Missouri and MR340.

In 2006, plans were adopted to reconfigure the park to be more integrated with the proposed Sustainable Urban Village concept of the Port Authority's redevelopment site.
