About the Riverfront
The Kansas City Riverfront is Kansas City's prime development property and the northern anchor of the community's "River Crown Plaza" urban vision.
The Riverfront is poised to build on its current successes by:
- Creating a vision of the metropolitan area's next great neighborhood in the heart of the city – promoting sustainability and bringing more life to the urban core.
- Capitalizing on the historic location and natural opportunities to create linkages between Columbus Park and the River Market neighborhoods.
- Developing a master plan for a sustainable, mixed-use, urban village that will serve as a model for other infill developments throughout the country.
- Seizing upon a site without parallel in the Midwest in terms of availability, accessibility, public ownership, location, proximity, view and dynamics.
The Riverfront is comprised of several components: Richard L Berkley Riverfront Park, the planned urban village development, the Riverfront Heritage Trail and the Riverfront West interpretive and conservation-based amenities. With these elements, the Downtown Kansas City Riverfront is becoming one of the most innovative and sustainable community assets in the region.
The Riverfront will be a link to communities and destinations along the river, while providing access to the water. With its visibility, accessibility, picturesque setting and historic past, the riverfront will provide immediate prestige to residents and visitors of Kansas City and the Riverfront.
