Hunt Midwest Enterprises
The Port Authority along with their development partner Hunt Midwest Enterprises are providing a sustainable industrial development below the surface of the former Richards-Gebaur Air Force Base site. The Port Authority retained 100.4 acres of surface property and most all of the land at and below the Winterset Limestone Ledge for the resource recovery and construction of future warehouse space. Hunt Midwest will lease the land and recover the limestone in this property by accessing the underground through the 100 acre ground level site. Upon build out, an estimated 18 million sq. ft. of usable space will be available for additional business use, producing and accompanying job creation. Attractive features of the subsurface development are constant temperature conditions, low utility cost and the presence of a Foreign Trade Zone.
Hunt-Midwest is an experienced sub surface developer having developed and operated the 50 million sq. ft, State-of-the-art Subtropolis underground facility. The use of both above ground and below ground space, as well as providing construction material for the surface and other nearby projects will add to the environmentally-friendly aspect of the Richards-Gebaur redevelopment.
