About Richards-Gebaur
The Port Authority of Kansas City is charged with economic development throughout the Kansas City area specifically along the Riverfront and with the conversion of the 1,400-acre former Richards-Gebaur Air Force Base into an international trade-processing center.
In 2007, the Port Authority and the City of Kansas City, Missouri, completed the sale of portions of the property to CenterPoint Properties, a seasoned intermodal developer with global experience. CenterPoint Properties is the master developer for the site and plans to utilize the property for diverse uses, including industrial, distribution, light manufacturing and warehouse.
The Port Authority oversees and manages many existing leases at Richards-Gebaur, including Kingston Environmental, Midwest Research Institute and the United States Marine Corps.
The CenterPoint/KCS Intermodal Center will capitalize on Kansas City's status as the second largest rail hub and the third largest trucking hub in the country. Transportation and logistics companies will find the former Richards-Gebaur site to be an ideal location for future investment. With more Foreign Trade Zone space than any other American city, Kansas City has inked trade agreements with Mexican and Canadian officials, taking advantage of major trade corridors moving North to South (I-29 and I-35) and East to West (I-70).
Redevelopment efforts are already well underway, with extensive infrastructure work completed by CenterPoint and Kansas City Southern, which operates a sophisticated rail distribution hub on the property. The Port Authority is also undertaking the initial process related to limestone resource recovery, with Hunt Midwest as a development partner.
